The Origin and Development of Massage Therapy

Massage, originated from China, was first created by the general public in order to contend against muscle strains and injuries from doing hard labor on a daily basis. Overtime, people gradually realize the results of press and knead. As the practice of massage becomes more common, people begin to diversify techniques and reveal additional benefits.

Massage was first recognized and documented as a therapeutic treatment in a Chinese Medical Book <黄帝内经> that was written during the Qin Dynasty, which is over two thousand years ago. It's believed to be the oldest system of bodywork.

Over the years, medical professionals continue to carry out various studies on the effects of massage treatment and the therapeutic mechanism. While some of the research is still ongoing, there is already plenty of evidence supporting the effectiveness of massage therapy. The scope of treatment has also been expanded and further divided into three main categories, which includes sports massage, medical massage (often used by Physical Therapists or Chiropractors), and general health wellness or relaxation massage.

Considering the long history of massage therapy and abundance of great research results, therapeutic massage has gained great momentum in the health care industry worldwide, especially in recent years. Depending on the client's needs, there is several types of massage to choose from, including Acupressure Massage, Swedish Massage, Thai Massage, Reflexology, etc.
